Alba launches new Code of Conduct to bolster integrity, accountability

Aluminium Bahrain (Alba), the world's largest aluminium smelter on one site, today (September 23) marked the launch of its enhanced Code of Conduct during a ceremony attended by Shaikh Isa bin Khalid Al Khalifa, the board member and chairman of the Board Audit & Risk Management Committee (BARMC), and Ali Al Baqali, the Company's Chief Executive Officer.

The event was also attended by the Advisor to the BARMC, Dr Ahmed Al Balooshi, and members of Alba's executive management team. The updated Code of Conduct represents a key milestone in strengthening Alba's governance framework, mitigating emerging risks, and reinforcing a culture of integrity and accountability.

Addressing the attendees, Shaikh Isa said: "The updated Code of Conduct goes beyond regulatory compliance. It serves as a cornerstone of Alba's governance framework, providing clear standards that guide ethical decision-making across the Company while safeguarding stakeholder trust."

The launch of the updated Code of Conduct reflects the ongoing evolution of a governance framework first introduced in 2011, when Alba became one of the first industrial companies in the region to implement both a formal Code of Conduct and the Integrity Line.

The latest edition has been updated to address evolving regulatory expectations and emerging business risks, with enhanced guidance on key areas including data privacy, information security, responsible use of technology and artificial intelligence, conflicts of interest, anti-bribery and corruption, and speaking up without fear of retaliation.

"Through this commitment, the Board of Directors continues to uphold a zero-tolerance approach to unethical conduct and reinforces its dedication to the highest standards of corporate governance," he stated.

On the enhanced Code, Al Baqali said: "As the business environment continues to evolve, our commitment to integrity remains unwavering. The updated Code of Conduct reflects our shared values and clearly defines how we conduct business responsibly, transparently, and ethically."

"By embedding these principles into everything we do, we will continue to strengthen Alba's culture, earn stakeholder trust, and create sustainable value for future generations," he added.
