Bahrain's Al Hunainiyah Water Project on track for 2027 completion

Bahraini authorities have announced that work is in full swing on the Al Hunainiyah Water Distribution Station project located at Riffa, Bahrain and will be completed by 2027-end.

The project includes a ground-level reservoir with a capacity of 10 million imperial gallons, with space allocated for a similar future reservoir, as well as an elevated reservoir with a capacity of 1.25 million imperial gallons to serve East Riffa. The project will also feature advanced remote monitoring and control systems, reported BNA.

The BD14.5 million ($38.4 million) project is likely to enter service in December next year, it stated.

"The Hunainiyah Water Distribution Station project comes as part of Bahrain's ongoing efforts to develop and enhance water infrastructure and improve the efficiency and reliability of the distribution network to meet the area's current and future needs and growing demand for water," remarked Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan, the Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, and Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Khalifa, the Southern Governor, after conducting a field visit to the project site.

They were given a short briefing on the completed phases and future plans for project completion.

Senior officials including Abdulla Ebrahim Abdullatif, the Chairman of the Municipal Council in the Southern Governorate; Ebrahim Al Kaabi, Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Planning and Projects at the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) and Brigadier Hamad Mohammed Al Khayat, Deputy Governor, joined the project tour.

Shaikh Khalifa said: "The service and development projects underway in the Southern Governorate reflect the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and implement the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to continue developing essential services, contributing to comprehensive development and enhancing the quality of services provided."

He said direct engagement was a key component of the governorate's work, enabling it to closely assess citizens' needs and monitor the quality and standard of services provided to them.

This project is vital for boosting the efficiency of the kingdom's water distribution network and ensuring sustainable services for residents, helping meet their needs and improve their quality of life, he added.
