Chemanol announces that on Friday 14/09/1435 H. corresponding to 11/07/2014 afternoon a limited fire has broken out at its Paraformaldehyde Unit located in Jubail Industrial City. The fire has been contained successfully by company firefighters with the help of nearby companies and civil defense teams.

The incident resulted in six human injuries which were limited to superficial wounds and suffocation and were transported to hospital for the necessary medical treatment. Work will stop temporarily at the Paraformaldehyde Unit until the investigation into the causes of the incident is complete and the financial impact is assessed under the insurance coverage of the plant. Meanwhile, work will continue normally in the rest of the company plants which were not affected by the fire. Hence, it is expected to complete the investigation and determine the financial impact within one month.

It is worth to mention that the Paraformaldehyde plant started commercial operation in 1989 and its annual production capacity is approximately 8,250 metric tons of the total capacity of all the company plants which is about 912,040 metric tons per annum. The Unit is considered as one of the plants which make up the old complex of the company which has recently undergone an assessment program for safety procedures, and all necessary preventive means and measures had been taken to reduce the recurrence of such incidents. Further substantial details will be announced later.
