Parkin Company will look to expand to other emirates as well as actively assess opportunities in the GCC, its CEO said.

The Dubai-based parking operator continues to see significant investments in urban development, smart cities, and mobility infrastructure, the executive added.

"We are exploring opportunities outside the UAE through different models, including parking management technology operations, and advisory partnership," Mohamed Al Ali, Parkin's chief executive officer, told Khaleej Times in an exclusive interview.

Al Ali added that the company is currently assessing the geopolitical situation and waiting for the right time to announce their next expansion plan.

"There are a few options on the table. We are in a state of discussions. Once we feel that there is a good opportunity and that there is safety and security, we'll announce." The CEO declined to name the country involved at this early stage, but hinted at the Gulf region.

"Parkin has been more than three decades of starting in the parking management operation technology, and this capability is highly transferable to other markets across the GCC, (and) the region," he said.

Expanding footprint into Egypt
More recently, the parking operator announced its expansion plans in Egypt, the first move it makes outside of the country. It signed a memorandum of understanding with three Egyptian companies - Modon Misr for Asset & Facility Management, Mwasalat Misr and Redcon Properties - in an effort to support the North African country's parking and mobility infrastructure.

One of the main strategic directions of Parkin is geographical expansion, the executive said, of which it continues to evaluate the scale of opportunities to improve parking operations, with the company more recently looking into Sharjah as its next investment opportunity.

Where does Parkin operate?
Parkin Company rolled out paid ticketless parking in the Al Jada neighbourhood in mid-July, with more locations expected as the company continues to expand into the emirate.

"This is an early stage with the private developers. Also in the pipeline, we are in mid-stage of discussion with one of the emirates," Al Ali said.

Parkin also recently linked up with Abu Dhabi-based parking operator Q Mobility to integrate both of their smart parking systems across the two emirates.

This would let residents and visitors access to a single, unified channel where they can pay parking fees or use other parking services, regardless of which emirate they are in.
