Bahrain-based GFH Financial Group has emerged as the sole bidder for the development and operation of the kingdom's iconic Bahrain National Stadium located within Shaikh Isa Sports City in North Riffa.
The Bahrain National Stadium occupies a site of around 65,000 sq m and has long been the home of the Bahrain national football team, Gulf Cup fixtures, international matches, regional tournaments, national celebrations and major entertainment events.
A leading regional financial group with major interests in asset management and real estate sectors, GFH has come with a bid offer of BD770,000 ($2.02 million) for an area of 6,500 sq m.
The bid was floated by the General Sports Authority (GSA) through the Government Land Investment Platform.
With this major move, Bahrain's most iconic sporting venue has moved a step closer to a new era.
The investment opportunity is regarded as one of Bahrain's most significant public-private partnership initiatives in the sports sector, offering a 25-year contract to operate, manage and develop the kingdom's premier football venue.
The tender was open to Bahraini and GCC investors, with bid documents requiring offers to remain valid for 180 days.
GSA said it will now evaluate the submission before announcing whether the bid meets the project's technical and financial requirements.
The Shaikh Isa Sports City plot consists of the Bahrain National Stadium Isa bin Rashid Sport Halls B and C and D as well as Bahrain Football Association Al Khaldiya Sports Club football courts car parking and supporting facilities. Furthermore the proposed project of investment shall consist of only the Bahrain National Stadium facility.
