Saudi Energy (formerly the Saudi Electricity Company), the kingdom's primary power service provider, has announced that it has signed an agreement with Expo 2030 Riyadh to deliver electricity supplies to the World Expo event site in Riyadh, thus marking a key step in the project's continued progress as it moves into the development phase toward hosting the gala event.
The agreement covers the delivery of electricity supplies to the Expo 2030 Riyadh site in accordance with the highest technical and operational specifications. It also includes developing the required electricity infrastructure, including constructing and connecting the necessary grid facilities to provide highly reliable and efficient electricity supplies.
The works include the construction of a main supply substation and three primary substations, as well as infrastructure for electricity transmission and distribution networks. Alfanar, Haif, TDP Construction and Trading, and Al Babtain companies will carry out the construction of the substations and connect them to the grid, reflecting the role of Saudi national expertise and capabilities in supporting the delivery of Expo 2030 Riyadh.
As per the deal, Saudi Energy will leverage its expertise and capabilities to deliver electricity supplies to the Expo 2030 Riyadh site in accordance with the highest standards of quality and reliability, supporting preparations for the global event and advancing the Kingdom's development objectives.
The agreement was signed by National Grid SA CEO Eng. Waleed Al-Saadi and Expo 2030 Riyadh Chief Development Officer Eng. Abdulaziz Al-Aqel in the presence of Saudi Energy CEO Eng. Khalid Al-Ghamdi and Expo 2030 Riyadh CEO Eng. Talal Al-Marri.
Al Ghamdi said the agreement reflects Saudi Energy's pivotal role in enabling major national projects under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy by developing reliable, highly efficient electricity infrastructure.
Al Marri said the agreement represents another important step reflecting the rapid progress across various workstreams at the site and enhancing its readiness in line with the approved schedule.
The co-operation with Saudi Energy reflects confidence in national expertise and capabilities, and in the ability to execute projects of this scale and ambition in accordance with the highest technical and operational standards and practices, he stated.
Saudi Arabia will be hosting Expo 2030 Riyadh from October 1, 2030, to March 31, 2031. It will span 6 million sq m under the theme "Foresight for Tomorrow," serving as a global platform for exchanging ideas, developing solutions, and building partnerships that create meaningful and lasting impact, address global challenges, and open new horizons of opportunity, stated Al Marri.
Following the Expo's conclusion, the site will be transformed into a vibrant global village, providing a sustainable legacy for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and future generations worldwide, he stated.
The agreement will help establish advanced and reliable infrastructure to support Expo 2030 Riyadh's readiness to welcome the world in 2030, the year of Saudi Vision 2030, and support the kingdom's efforts to deliver an exceptional edition of the World Expo that reflects its ambition and capabilities in executing major global projects, he added.
Al-Ghamdi said the agreement provides for securing electricity supplies to the site ahead of the event, allowing testing and trial operations to be completed.
It will also work to raise the site's operational readiness in line with Expo 2030 Riyadh requirements, and preparing its facilities to host 197 countries and receive an expected 42 million visits, he added.
